What is a Community Foundation?

The BC Interior Community Foundation (BCICF) is proud to be a member of a national network of 191 Community Foundations across Canada.  While each Foundation works independently, all are committed to making a lasting difference in their respective communities / regions!  This is accomplished by providing philanthropic donors with flexible, efficient and tax-effective ways of ensuring their charitable giving generates maximum impacts.

The concept of a community foundation is delightfully simple – it is a charitable framework to build, over time, substantial and permanent endowment funds (through contributions both large and small).  Since these contributions are “endowed”, the principal is never spent – instead, they are  invested to produce “income”.  That earned income is annually distributed to support a diversity of charitable needs – from environmental initiatives to arts and culture, at-risk-population sectors, youth, families, seniors and more… all within your local community / region… forever!

Like other community foundations, the BCICF does not generally engage in its own programming.  Rather, we support new or existing programs of other non-profit organizations and agencies.  For over three decades we have worked with Donors to set up individual funds (in your name or that of a loved one) with total flexibility on how you would like to determine the charitable benefits.   Other Donors choose to contribute to a variety of existing funds – set up for particular purposes.   Educational scholarships form an important element of many of these types of funds.  The BCICF also has a “general endowment fund” with income distributed by our Board of Directors to changing needs and opportunities.

We are governed by locally selected volunteers, from a broad cross-section of expertise, who are knowledgeable about their communities and have passion for ensuring quality of life for all residents.

All contributions are tax-deductible, but please keep in mind that any contributions under $25 should be made through Canada Helps if you require a tax receipt.

Whatever your charitable intentions, we offer the flexibility to achieve them through the BC Interior Community Foundation’s sustainable philanthropic management.   Please consider becoming a Donor, a Corporate Supporter or Member!  You can make a difference in your community in the Thompson, Nicola and South Cariboo region with a one-time donation or a monthly donation using your credit card through CanadaHelps.
