This Fund was started in memory of Mark Foan to support graduating and mature students. It provides an annual bursary of up to $1,500 to students with superior work ethic and citizenship. The applicants must be planning to further their education in the areas of Mark’s expertise, namely the trades, information technology or aviation. Qualifying students will reside in the Thompson, Nicola and South Cariboo regions, or SD#33 (Chilliwack) and/or SC#78 (Fraser-Cascade).

    Program Description

    The award from this Fund is available to students from the area that the Foundation serves (South Cariboo and Thompson Nicola area) as well as the areas served by school districts #33 (Chilliwack)
    and #78 (Fraser-Cascade).

    Initially there will be one bursary awarded annually of up to $1,500.00. This award value may be increased in the future or the number of bursaries offered increased.

    AWARD CRITERIA

    1. Applicant must be completing or have completed grade 12 in the area that the Foundation serves (South Cariboo and Thompson Nicola area) as well as the areas served by school districts #33 (Chilliwack) and #78 (Fraser-Cascade).
    2. Applicant must have had a C+ standing when graduating.
    3. Mature students or students in any year of a program are welcome to apply.
    4. Applicant must exhibit outstanding citizenship and work ethic and provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer.
    5. Applicant should also submit a letter outlining their plans once the course is completed.
    6. Applicant must be planning to attend a Canadian post-secondary institution. These studies could be for a diploma, trades certification or a degree.
    7. Applicant must exhibit financial need and provide a budget for their year of study.
    8. The award must be claimed in the calendar year it is awarded.
    9. A recipient of the award can only receive it once.

    APPLICATION PROCESS

    1. Complete the attached application form
    2. Include the most recent marks available.
    3. With the application include at least one letter from a school representative or employer and
      a letter outlining your plans once you complete the course.
    4. The application and accompanying documents should be sent to the BC Interior Community
      Foundation office at #2 - 219 Victoria St., Kamloops, BC V2C 2A1 by March 1st.
    5. The applications will be reviewed by a committee of the B.C Interior Community Foundation.

    Please Note: Once the award recipient has provided the BC Interior Community Foundation with proof of registration at a Canadian Educational institution the award will be credited to the recipient’s account at that institution. The recipient must claim the award within the calendar year it is awarded.

    The application requires that you include at least one letter from a school representative or employer. A budget for the year of studies must be included and a letter outlining future plans. All applications must be received in the BC Interior Community Foundation office by March 1st. The applications will be reviewed and award winners announced by the end of June.
