The Nicholas Zhou Legacy Fund was established in 2022 in memory of Nicholas Zhou, who struggled with depression and passed away at age 19.
In memory of Nicholas Zhou, his family and friends spearheaded a 5km Run, Walk, or Stroll around Pioneer Park to raise awareness for Youth Mental Health.
In 2023, “Nicholas’ Run for Youth Mental Health” was launched and raised $16,880 for the fund through the Interior Community Foundation. In 2024, $5,000 from this fund was donated to BGC (formerly the Boys and Girls Club) to provide professional counselling for youth aged 15 to 25. Ongoing funds will continue to support BGC and FOUNDRY Kamloops, a new youth mental health initiative supported by Interior Community Services (ICS), which will be coming to Kamloops in 2026.
100% of the raised funds will remain in Kamloops & surrounding area. This annual event aims to raise awareness for youth mental health and suicide prevention. Organizers have identified a significant gap in available support between the “school age” and “adulthood age” transitions. Our mission is to provide help, assistance, and resources to youth aged 15 to 25, as well as to their friends and families who support them. We believe that a community-based care approach will enhance the well-being of youth in need.
