BCICF Christmas Cheer Fund
Fund Categories: Community
Fund Types: Discretionary Fund

The Christmas Cheer campaign has been a cherished tradition in the Kamloops community for many years. It was founded by staff at the Kamloops Daily News (KDN) in the early 1990s, quickly becoming a beloved annual event. Over the years, the campaign has supported numerous local charities, spreading holiday cheer and providing essential assistance to those in need during the festive season. When KDN closed its doors, the campaign was taken on by Kamloops This Week (KTW), ensuring that the tradition continued uninterrupted. In 2023, with the closure of KTW, the BC Interior Community Foundation (BCICF) proudly carried the torch to continue the legacy of the Christmas Cheer Fund.

To ensure that this initiative will continue forever, in 2024, the BC Interior Community Foundation established an endowed BCICF Christmas Cheer Fund. A small percentage of the Christmas Cheer donations are allocated to this fund each year. This endowment fund invests the principal amount, using only the income generated from these investments to support holiday cheer initiatives. This ensures the fund’s longevity and its ability to support the community year after year, preserving the legacy of Christmas Cheer for future generations.

Through the BCICF Christmas Cheer initiative, the spirit of giving and community support that began in the early 90s continues to thrive, making a positive impact on the Kamloops community year after year.
