Murray Family Fund

A scholarship for a student within School District 73, 74, or 58.  

Mr. Cam Murray was a teacher in School District #73 with a very strong affinity to the outdoors and the environment. During his time in Kamloops he was great supporter of the McQueen Lake Environmental Education Centre. Now retired and living in New Zealand, Cam still has education at heart. He wants, through the Murray Family Fund, to assist students from the BC Interior Community Foundation’s geographic area to further their education. Applicants pursuing studies which include: outdoor environmental issues, environmental education and/or natural resource management will be given preference.

Program Description

This scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who wish to further their studies after
completing high school and are accepted/enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution (trade school, college, university) within Canada. The applicants must have graduated from a secondary school within School Districts #58, #73 and #74 in British Columbia. There will be one annual award of up to $500.00 should suitable candidates apply. The successful scholarship applicant will be selected by the BC Interior Community Foundation.

How the Program Works:

Eligibility:

  • Have graduated (or will graduate this spring) from a secondary school within school districts #58, #73 or #74 with a ‘B’ average or higher.
  • Have provided community service in the area of the environment
  • Be registered (or in the process of registering) in a post-secondary institution within Canada.

Application Checklist:

✓ Completed Application form - incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
✓ Application letter (no more than 2 pages in length)
✓ Transcripts

The successful applicant will receive a letter detailing the necessary documents for proof of registration. Upon submission of proof of registration by the student to the BC Interior Community Foundation via email, the award will be credited to the successful applicant's account at the post-secondary institution within Canada.

Submit the completed application form, along with all other required documents, on or before March 1st. The applications will be reviewed and winner(s) announced by the end of May annually.

This application requires that you write a letter addressing the topics of importance listed below. Please provide a complete but concise outline for each topic heading. The review team expects the letters will not exceed two pages in length.

Your letter of application should describe your:

  • community involvement and volunteerism in your community.
  • involvement in the environment either at school or in the community.
  • education plan and career goals.

Deadline for receipt of applications is March 1st annually. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
