We are proud to announce the establishment of the Jakob Gottfriedson Memorial Award, a student award fund dedicated to honouring the memory of Jakob Gottfriedson.

Tragically, Jakob’s life was cut short just as he stood on the cusp of adulthood a few weeks prior to his high school graduation. A motor vehicle accident ended his life unexpectedly, leaving a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Sarah Thomas, a close family friend, has been helping the family navigate this very difficult time. She says, “Jakob’s warmth and compassion touched the lives of many, embracing people from all walks of life with open arms. His kindness knew no bounds, and he was a beacon of inclusion, ensuring that no one felt overlooked or undervalued. Jakob’s legacy is woven with threads of empathy and understanding, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.”

Despite his brief time on earth, Jakob’s impact resonates far and wide. His laughter, kindness, and zest for life continue to echo in the memories of those who were fortunate to share in his presence. She continues, “We want to continue Jakob’s legacy in a meaningful way, and that is why the family has decided to create this award in Jakob’s name.”

The Jakob Gottfriedson Memorial Award will provide an annual award to a graduating student from Valleyview Secondary School. This award is a testament to Jakob’s enduring spirit and the positive influence he had on his community.
