The 4th Annual Nicholas’ Run for Youth Mental Health will take place Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Pioneer Park in downtown Kamloops, bringing the community together to raise awareness and support for youth mental health and suicide prevention.
The 5 km run, walk and stroll begins at 9 a.m. and welcomes runners, walkers, families and community members (even the four-legged ones) of all ages.
The event was created in memory of Nicholas Zhou, who died by suicide at the age of 19 after struggling with depression.
Following Nicholas’ death, his mother, Rie Takahashi, established the Nicholas Zhou Legacy Fund at the BC Interior Community Foundation in 2022. Together with Lisa Imeson, she helped launch Nicholas’ Run for Youth Mental Health as a way to honour Nicholas, encourage conversations about youth mental health and build lasting support for young people in the Kamloops area.
Organizers have identified a significant gap in support for young people transitioning from school age into adulthood and are especially focused on youth between the ages of 15 and 25, as well as the friends and families who support them.
All funds raised through Nicholas’ Run for Youth Mental Health will go to the Nicholas Zhou Legacy Fund where they will help provide lasting support for youth mental health initiatives in Kamloops and the surrounding area. Grants from the Fund support local charitable organizations serving young people and the families and friends who walk beside them.
