The Jakob Gottfriedson Memorial Award will provide a scholarship to a graduating student from Valleyview Secondary School.
Jakob graced this world on April 13, 2006 in Kamloops, British Columbia. He was a beacon of love and acceptance, his heart embracing people from every corner of society with warmth and compassion. His kindness knew no bounds as he stood for inclusion and made sure no one felt overlooked or undervalued. Whether rich or poor, young or old, part of the ‘in’ crowd or not, he saw the inherent worth in everyone, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding wherever he went.
From his earliest days, Jakob’s spirit was ignited by the thrill of competition and the camaraderie found on the ice, as he eagerly took to the rinks with Kamloops Minor Hockey Association. With each stride, puck, and goal, Jakob’s passion for hockey blossomed, becoming a cornerstone of his identity. His dedication and skill were not just evident in his performance on the ice but in the bonds he forged with teammates and coaches alike.
Beyond the arena, Jakob’s love for the great outdoors was boundless. Whether casting his line into tranquil waters or trekking through rugged terrain, he found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. Fishing trips and hunting excursions became cherished moments of reflection and connection with loved ones, further enriching his adventurous spirit.
As he stood on the cusp of adulthood, with his high school graduation just within reach, tragedy struck unexpectedly. In the midst of life’s excitement and anticipation, Jakob’s journey was cut short by a tragic motor vehicle accident, leaving a profound void in the lives of all who knew him.
Though his time on earth was brief, Jakob’s impact resonates far and wide.
